When I photograph food on location, I focus on capturing the essence of the setting as well as the dish itself. I work with natural light whenever possible, positioning the food near windows or shaded outdoor areas to create soft, even lighting. I pay close attention to the background and surroundings, incorporating elements that reflect the local atmosphere without distracting from the main subject. I also bring a few portable props, like rustic utensils or background props, to enhance the visual appeal. Before shooting, I style the food carefully to make it look fresh and appetising, and I take multiple angles to find the most flattering composition.
Behind the scenes
When I photograph behind the scenes of food creation, I focus on capturing the raw, authentic moments that show the craftsmanship and passion of the process. I document each stage—chopping, mixing, plating—highlighting the hands, tools, and textures that bring the dish to life. I use natural or ambient lighting to maintain the real atmosphere of the kitchen, avoiding staged setups so the images feel honest and immersive. I move around the space carefully, observing without interrupting, and look for small details that tell a bigger story, like a sprinkle of herbs, a focused expression, or the motion of a whisk.
